American Foxhound dogs are tall in height, have a keener sense to smell and are very faster to chase. Its front legs have straight bone. Head is long, Eyes are board and pendent, Ears are wide, flat to the head. Its fur may be in any color. Generally its height is 21 to 25 inches and weight between 65 to 75 pounds. Its smooth short hair coat is easy to comb and brush.

The American foxhound is sweet, gentle and loving at home. Some dogs of this breed are very friendly, some are very protective. There is no housebreaking problem with this breed. Even they have a melodious bark and its tone have been used in songs also. But it needs a lot of exercise daily else it will become restless and destructive.
